Join Dr Chris Timmermann for a mind-expanding evening at the intersection of neuroscience, psychedelics and the deepest mysteries of mind and self.
As psychedelic therapy moves into the mainstream, intriguing questions are opening up at the fringes of psychedelic science. Are DMT entities real? If we see brain activity associated with them, does that mean they are entirely produced by the brain? Is consciousness something the brain produces, or something the brain tunes into?
The talk dives into the latest research: entity encounters during high-dose DMT experiments, 5-MeO-DMT and its uncanny overlap with non-dual meditation states, brain imaging data on connectivity, entropy and brainwaves, how psychedelics shift metaphysical beliefs towards animism and panpsychism, and a recent collaboration with a meditation lama exploring where contemplative training meets psychedelic consciousness.
Dr Chris Timmermann obtained his PhD in Neuropsychopharmacology at Imperial College London, where he led the world's first brain imaging studies of DMT and headed the DMT Research Group until 2025. He now co-directs the UCL Centre for Consciousness Research and has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers, with work featured in The New York Times, BBC, WIRED and The Guardian.
